THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the school this year for their contributions. It has been stated on many occasions how very lucky we are to have such an amazing school community that supports us to make this a great place. I have enjoyed the festivities and presentations over the past week and it has again been wonderful to see the students performing in celebration of all of the achievements this year.

Yesterday we celebrated the Year 6’s at their Graduation ceremony. Again, thank you to the Year 6 teachers, Miss Stotter, Mrs Bebbington and Mr Orrell for everything they have done to prepare the students. Also to Mrs Bell for her organisation of the ceremony. Thanks also to all of the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters who came to farewell the graduating Year 6’s.  I’m sure there will be a few more tears as they walk through the arch tomorrow afternoon.

This was followed this morning by the Presentation Assembly for the Book Awards for all of the other year groups. I would like to congratulate all of the award recipients and again thank everyone else for their genuine support and excitement for their classmates who received the awards. In a nice touch, all award winners are listed in this year’s Yearbook.

I would also like to acknowledge the 2020 school leaders who were announced today. I’m sure you will all do a wonderful job. As is often the case, there will probably be some disappointed people who did not receive a position. As a Year 6, you will all have a chance to show leadership at some point, so be on the lookout for this.

I would like to farewell a few staff members who will not be with us in 2020. As this newsletter goes to print, Mrs Bell is probably making her final journey home to Fremantle from Gooseberry Hill. We are going to miss Mrs Bell and sincerely thank her for her contribution to the school over the past 10 years. They are big shoes to fill and an announcement on her replacement will be made at the beginning of 2020. Mrs Mitchell is also taking 2020 to focus on her health and the students expressed their appreciation for her with a small presentation at the Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday. Fortunately, Mrs Mitchell just lives down the road so we are hoping she will still come back and visit when she can. Miss Stotter, Miss Richards, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Dunning, Miss Miller and Miss Flett are also leaving due to the return of some permanent staff and we thank them for their contribution. Mrs Stevens is leaving for a sea change after many years as a relief and part time teacher and we will certainly miss what she brings to the school in so many areas. We also farewell our Chaplain, Adrian Wilson as he seeks a more permanent position. We are still waiting to hear about the possibility of Mrs Halicki returning.  Whilst we are still finalising the placements of our Education Assistants, at this stage it would appear that Mrs Ball will not be with us next year so we thank her for her support of the staff and students.

As we look back and reflect on the year, I continue to be astounded by what we are able to squeeze into 40 weeks. I am very proud to be part of the Gooseberry Hill school community and can say without bias that it is the best school I have ever been a part of. To everyone who has been involved some way, I sincerely thank you.

I would like to wish all of our families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.
