STIRK SWIMMING

Congratulations to our Interschool Swimming team and Coach Caddy on coming 1st in the Stirk Swimming Carnival today. It was a solid team performance that saw us retain the shield with Kalamunda PS in 2nd and Maida Vale in 3rd.

Our consistency was highlighted in the relays with the Year 4s finishing 3rd and both Year 5 and Year 6 teams coming 1st. Well done to everyone who competed and Coach Caddy for taking the time to hold a couple of training sessions and cook the team breakfast yesterday. Individually, Emily was Runner Up Year 4 Champion Girl, Maddison Runner Up Year 5 Champion Girl and Jack was Year 6 Champion Boy.

Thank you also to all of the parents who took the time to attend today and support your children and our team.

TERM 1 WRAP-UP

This time tomorrow, we’ll be looking forward to the Easter break and school holidays that follow. It has been an interesting term with a pause way back in Week One creating some uncertainty and also forcing us to squeeze a lot into an already shortened term.

I would like to thank staff, students and parents for their ongoing efforts to ensure that GHPS is a great place to be. Everyone works extremely hard to provide opportunities for success across all areas of the curriculum.

Staff have been busy reviewing all of the things that we do across the school, both within the curriculum and the extra-curricular activities, and making recommendations as to how we can streamline our practices to ensure that we are both effective and efficient. This will result in some changes to the school calendar from Term 2 onwards with some decisions on activities and events already made and others still being reviewed. We acknowledge that whilst we do a lot, sometimes we do this at the expense of our own health and wellbeing and therefore it is important that we strike a balance. I have also had parent feedback to suggest certain times of the year are draining on families and hence we need to look at the impact that this is having. As I said in the last newsletter, the 2021-23 Business Plan will focus on success through excellence and experience and part of this is making sure what we do, we do well, but at the same time we review our practice to ensure that it is relevant and meets the needs of staff, students and parents.

Part of this review will also include a parent survey that will be available early in Term 2. Please be sure to complete this survey as it is important that we have a parent voice as part of our review processes. Students will also have a chance to complete a survey.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all for an 11-week Term 2.
