It was a privilege to be able to attend the WAGSMS performance last Monday night at the Crown theatre. I was left beaming with pride following the performance of both our orchestra and our choir. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform on a world class stage and the performances blew everyone away.

I would like to thank everyone who made it possible, Mrs Elsegood for organising the entire event and giving our student leaders the opportunity to host, the staff who assisted both on the night and throughout rehearsals, the parents who supported in so many ways from making costumes, helping with fittings and getting the kids to and from rehearsals. Let us not forget Mrs O’Reilly whose artistic talents and passion for music and performance makes it all possible.

I may be biased, but I believe our choir performance was the best of the evening.

As is the GHPS way, the Year 6 staff and students along with Ms Archdall and Mr Caddy, packed up on Tuesday and headed to Busselton for the Year 6 Camp. It was a fabulous 4 days with the weather being kind for the most part and the students and staff enjoyed a range of activities both challenging and enjoyable. I was very lucky to join them from Wednesday night onwards and must say the Forrest Adventure high ropes course was my highlight.

It was great to be able to spend time with the students in a different environment and learn more about them. Camp is a great way to challenge the students to be a little more independent and we were certainly able to see them grow across the 4 days.

Thank you to Mr Orrell, Mrs Bebbington, Mr Blight, Mrs Suijendorp, Mr Caddy and Ms Archdall for giving up their time to organise and go on camp.

Sate Schools Cross Country

Well done to all of the students who represented GHPS at the State School Cross Country last week.  This is a huge event with state and national quality runners and all our students went really well both running a greater distance and also a faster pace than the school and interschool events.

Thank you to Mrs Elsegood and Mrs Reaveley who went with the team and all of the parents who came along to support.

As you may have seen on the front page of the Echo our Year 6 Netball Team were crowned State Champions at the State School Netball Championships a fortnight ago. The team were undefeated throughout the day and eventually drew in the final with Hollywood Primary School to be crowned joint champions. Well done!

Thank you to the parents who coached and supported the team at both the Stirk carnival and the State Champs and also to Mr Caddy who went along for the ride.

The next P&C meeting is tonight at 6:30pm, please note that this meeting will now take place in the Board Room in the Admin building (previously the Library). I hope to see many of you there either in person or via Webex.

There is also a 50 Year planning committee meeting next Wednesday at 6:30pm in the library. There is a Webex option also available.

The School Board will meet on Tuesday 31 August at 6:30pm in the Board Room.
